Welcome to Wylam Bird Club website. The aim of the Club is to enable the members to learn, exchange and disseminate any information and knowledge on ornithology local, national and international. Membership is open to anyone with a genuine interest in ornithology. The club meets over two sessions, Autumn (September/October- December) and Winter (January – March/April). Each session generally comprises 10-12 meetings, 6 indoor reviews and 6 field trips. Indoor meetings are usually Wednesday evenings 19.30-21.30. A mixture of discussion of bird sightings and bird issues at local, national and international levels, bird identification training, guest lectures and related topics such as environmental change and its impact on bird populations. Outdoor trips are usaully Saturday or Sunday, though some may be mid-week, and full day, though attending for part of the day is perfectly acceptable. These are typically centered around Northumberland coastal visits, inland areas (such as Coquetdale) and visits further afield to places such as Caerlaverock. Extra outings may be arranged at any time. These extra outings may be subject to an additional payment to the standard Autumn and Winter subscriptions. Members also particpate in regular survey work around Wylam (Wylam Walk). Reports from all field trips are included on the website. Fees are currently £25 per session. The club is formally organised, with a Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer to manage the Club. Mr B Galloway guides and directs the club in all matters ornithological. The Annual General Meeting, normally the first meeting of the Winter session, presents an audited Income and Expenditure Account/Balance Sheet, and is logged on the site. Currently, no Insurance is in force in relation to field trips. Participants must make their own insurance arrangements. Wylam Bird Club will not accept any liability for accident or injury occurring during field trips.
